“In October 2019, we moved to Whangarei, downsizing from a large house on 46 acres to a much smaller home set on just 3 acres of land. The move meant that we lost the space for an art studio within the house – using the spare bedroom in the new house was not a good long-term option.
Eventually, we decided a garden shed art studio would be a good solution, so the research began. We had seen SheSheds advertised and featured by Hilary Barry on TV and decided to take on the challenge.”
“The She Shed kitset arrived promptly after placing the order. We prepared the ground, taking a lot of time to get the sloping site level and square.
The initial building of walls was quick and easy until we got to the point of installing the window. The window and doors, glazed with glass, were much heavier than we expected and too heavy for the two of us to lift into place. Luckily, we had a strong neighbour willing to help lift the window and later help us with the roof tiles.”
“Once the structure was complete, we added solar panels to provide extra lighting and heating.
Overall, we progressed at a slow and steady pace to complete the shed. We added extra floor beams to give greater strength.”
