It all started at a home show in Christchurch, New Zealand, where the founder, Gemma, was working for another business. Visitors to the booth were drawn to a poster of a quaint potting shed and kept asking if it was for sale. Although the focus was on another product, the interest in the shed was undeniable, sparking an idea. Shortly after, SheShed was born, and the journey of creating one of the most recognisable flatpack cabin companies in the region began.
What sets SheShed apart is its focus on design, quality, and an effortless customer experience. It’s about making something beautiful and practical, while ensuring the buying process is as smooth as possible. Each flatpack cabin is shipped directly to the customer’s home at a flat rate, making it easy to get started on building a personal retreat.
The cabins themselves are crafted from high-quality timber with signature French doors, sourced from Europe, and designed to last. The goal was never to produce generic sheds, but to offer cabins that inspire. Customers have transformed their SheShed cabins into art studios, yoga spaces, home offices, and more. The possibilities are endless, and the spaces created by SheShed owners are a true testament to the brand’s mission.
In the early days, the family juggled full-time jobs and parenting while getting SheShed off the ground. It wasn’t easy balancing work, family life, and a growing business, but they managed it together. As SheShed expanded, the decision was made to fully commit to the business, with family members stepping into key roles. The addition of engineering and logistics expertise, alongside a dedicated team in Australia and New Zealand, has helped SheShed thrive.
