Tasman Cabin display – How we personalised our Tasman SheShed

If you've ever been to our office in Katoomba, New South Wales, or done a Zoom tour with us, chances are you've probably seen our Tasman cabin on display. Given the great feedback we get from all who view it (and the fact that most of our team members choose this cabin to have meetings in there over any other!), we think it's fair to say it's quite an inspiring space and one which we're quite proud to show customers around.

There are a few things that make our Tasman display special, the barn doors, the vented windows and fixed long window and they are the optional extras we added to it during construction. In this article, we're going to walk you through what those extras are.

SheShed Tasman Cabin

Barn Doors

To the rear of our Tasman display we added these stunning Barn Doors. They are beautifully crafted, designed to be stylish and provide security. Made from solid 58mm Nordic spruce timber, these doors are robust, ensuring durability and a rustic charm that complements your cabin.

Quality fittings, including lock and key handles, top and bottom chute bolts, and adjustable hinges, to offer superior security and convenience. The heavy-duty decorative hinges not only add to the rustic appeal but also ensure long-lasting functionality.

The barn doors are only available as an optional extra for the Tasman cabin.

Double French Doors

Included as standard with the Tasman cabin are Double French Doors and they are a stunningly beautiful set of doors at that! The windows of the door are double glazed and come with decorative timber lattice. For this display, though, we decided to tweak the doors and remove the timber lattice work, as we wanted to achieve a more modern style for the exterior of the display.

Casement Window

Just like the double French doors, casement windows with decorative timber lattice are included as standard with the Tasman cabin but to continue to achieve the modern exterior aesthetic we were going for, we decided to remove the timber lattice work from the casement windows as well.

Fixed Vented Windows

With our Tasman display, we wanted to bring in as much natural light as possible, and to achieve this, we added several extra windows, two of which are our fixed vented windows. Positioned next to the front door, the top vented section of the window can easily be opened and closed allowing for airflow and helping to maintain a comfortable environment. Plus, at 340mm x 1530mm they allow plenty of natural light into the Tasman.

Our Fixed Vented Windows can be added to all the cabins in the SheShed range. Depending on the particular SheShed you choose, some modification may be required.

Fixed Long Windows

The other window we added to the Tasman to maximise the natural light coming in was a fixed long window. Positioned on the opposite wall to our double window, the fixed long window is ideal for creating a bright, open space that feels connected to the outdoors, perfect for bringing the outside in.

Our Fixed Long Windows can be fitted to all the cabins in the SheShed range. Depending on the particular SheShed you choose, some modification may be required.

Steel Foundation Kit

They say all good things start with the foundation and in the case of our Tasman display this certainly rings true.

For this display we opted for the Steel Foundation Kit. Made from zinc plated, 1.6mm thick roll formed steel beams, the steel foundation kit was the perfect choice because it was quick to install, was easy to adapt to our block of land and being steel gives us peace of mind knowing its termite and rot proof!

Steel Foundation Kits are available for every SheShed.

Electricity

We added power to our Tasman display so that we could incorporate some beautiful light fixtures into the space. Although we've got plenty of windows and natural light coming into the Tasman, as with any structure, sometimes you just need some additional lighting and being able to have pendant lights and a hero ceiling light were the icing on the cake for our Tasman display cabin.

Power is a great addition to help make your SheShed a functional and beautiful space to use. If you'd like to find out more about how to add power to your SheShed, we've got a great guide on how to do this. Read it here

Paint

For a lot of our customers, paint is one of the main ways they like to add a personal touch to their SheShed and it was no different for us in the case of our Tasman display. Paint doesn't just provide you with an opportunity to customise your SheShed, it also protects the exterior of your cabin from weather damage and helps to keep it looking beautiful for years to come.

To paint our display, we first chose the colours, for the exterior we selected a beautiful green tone – Bryophyte for the wallboards. For the doors, windows and trimmings we selected a white tone - Lexicon quarter. In the interior we decided to paint one feature wall in a different green tone, this time opting for Highland Green EB. The remaining walls and trimmings were all painted with Lexicon quarter.

We then had those colours made up using a well-known Australian paint brand designed specifically for use on wood, and, following the guidelines of our SheShed warranty, applied three coats of the paint.

When you choose a SheShed, you’re not just investing in extra space; you’re creating a personalised space that reflects your style and meets your specific needs. Whether you're looking to create a functional workspace, a stylish guest room, or a cosy retreat, the right customisation options can make all the difference.
