Built as a dedicated space for Mal’s daughter, a passionate artist, this SheShed was planned with intention from the very beginning. The goal was clear, his daughter needed a backyard studio that felt warm, peaceful, and visually refined, while still being practical and highly usable year-round.

Just as important was the experience during the early consultation stage. Before purchasing, Mal met with the SheShed team online, asked detailed questions, and took a virtual tour of a display cabin. This helped build trust quickly and gave him confidence in the quality of the materials and finish.
The steel subfloor was a major deciding factor. It provided a solid, long-lasting foundation, allowed for excellent underfloor ventilation, and integrated seamlessly with the deck built in front of the cabin. For Mal, it was clear that this detail elevated the SheShed well beyond a standard backyard shed.

The build progressed without any challenges, highlighting how well the SheShed kit works alongside professional builders while still offering flexibility for different build approaches.
Styling a SheShed designed for creativity
The interior and exterior styling were guided by Mal’s daughter, who had been planning the space for some time. With a clear vision board already created, the design came together effortlessly.
Inside, the focus was on white finishes to keep the space light and open. The floor was stained to match the deck outside, creating a strong connection between the indoor studio and the backyard. To add warmth and contrast, the exposed roof beams were stained, standing out beautifully against the white ceiling.
Externally, the SheShed was painted in Dulux Shale Grey, with Snowy Mountains Half White used on the windows, doors, fascia, and eaves. Furniture was carefully selected by his daughter, combining older pieces with new finds to suit the colour palette and creative purpose of the space. The interior continues to evolve, with plans to replace the bright LED ceiling light with softer, warmer lighting using a decorative brass wall light and floor lamp.
A backyard studio that gets used every day
Now complete, Mal’s SheShed has become a welcoming and well-used creative retreat. With the yard receiving full sun for most of the day, a small air conditioner was installed to keep the space comfortable through summer and winter.
Most importantly, the SheShed has given Mal’s daughter a dedicated place to focus, create, and enjoy time in her own space, separate from the main house yet still connected to the backyard.
Enhancing the backyard
